What's new: routines with a start value, notes just for coaches, and the meets your gymnast is in

Gym TeamHub 1.2.2 is rolling out on the App Store and Play Store. It brings the phone most of what has landed on the web since 1.2.0, the new Routines tab included.
As before, this isn't a list of every fix. It's the changes you'll notice in the gym, on the web and on the phone, since the last post. That takes in the 1.2.1 update too.
Routines: every gymnast's routine, with a start value
Keeping every kid's routine, requirements and start value in your head gets harder with every gymnast you add.
The Routines tab is where a routine gets planned: the skills in order, the value letter of each, and what the routine still needs. The app adds it up into an estimated start value as you build. Open How it adds up to see where the number comes from, and What's missing to see what the routine hasn't met yet.
- Scoring templates. USAG Women's Levels 6–10 are built in for vault, bars, beam and floor, and we keep them up to date. For the men's program, Xcel or your gym's own rules, add your own template: a capped start value, an open-ended score, or a vault.
- Competition routine. Mark one routine per event as the gymnast's Competition routine. The Routines home then shows every gymnast's start value on each event, level by level.
- Routine library. Build a routine once and copy it to several gymnasts at once.
- Families, if your gym shares Routines with them, see only their own gymnast's routines, and can build and edit them too.
Two things to know. The number is an estimate: the app works it out from the values someone entered, and the judges set the official start value. And Routines is a Beta that stays off until an owner or director turns it on, on the web: Settings → Hub Settings → Feature Tabs, choose Routines, then Save Tabs. After that it's in the sidebar on the web and under More in the app. The Routines guide has the rest.
Coach Notes on every meet and camp
Every meet and camp has a Coach Notes tab that only owners, directors and coaches can see. Admins and families never do. It's for what the staff needs to know and families don't: travel plans, meet logistics, performance notes.
- Post a note and the rest of the coaching staff gets an alert.
- Comment to keep the conversation with the note.
- Pin up to 3 notes so they stay at the top.
- Mute one meet with the bell when it gets busy.
An alert never includes what was written, only who posted and on which meet. A notification can sit on a lock screen, and notes often mention gymnasts by name.
On the phone the tab is called Notes. More on Coach Notes.
"Which meets is my gymnast in?"
Parents could always see every meet and camp the gym had on the books. What they couldn't see, without opening each one, was which of them their own gymnast was in.
The top of Meets & Camps now lists the upcoming meets and camps your gymnast is On roster or Signed up for, soonest first. The same status shows on each card, on the dashboard's Next up, on the calendar, and on your gymnast's profile. If sign-ups are open with a deadline and your gymnast isn't in yet, the card says Sign up by and the date.
Two more for meet season:
- Cost and payment due, on the card. If your gym has added them, an upcoming meet or camp shows what it costs and when payment is due, without opening it.
- A paused gymnast keeps their meets. A break doesn't hide a sign-up.
Attendance that matches the day
- Late and Left Early on the same day. A gymnast who came in late and left early can be marked as both. The day counts once toward their attendance percentage.
- Nothing recorded is a dash, not 0%. A gymnast nobody took attendance for used to show a red 0%. They show a dash now, and stay out of the averages.
- Export. On the web, staff can Export the Metrics tab's date range as a spreadsheet: a row per gymnast, a column per day.
Rotations with more than one coach
A rotation block can have as many coaches as are actually on it. On the web, right-click a block in Daily Rotations, choose Coaches, and check everyone coaching it.
A block lists the names when they fit, and shows a count like 3 coaches when they don't. Tap or click the count to see who. The phone shows every coach from this update on.
The docs have a new Schedule section covering practice times and rotations, for building them and for reading them.
Weekly assignments
Some work runs all week. A weekly assignment is one card that covers a range of days, and its checks carry: what the group finished on Monday is already checked on Wednesday. Pick it when you create an assignment: it's in the last step on the web, and it's Weekly — progress carries on the phone.
The phone has built these since 1.2.1, along with assignments from a template, copies to another date, and stations and repeats.
Messages, posts and hubs
- Rename a channel. Any channel except a direct message, including a group's channel and the hub-wide one. Whoever can delete a channel can rename it. On the phone, tap the channel name at the top, then Rename.
- Posts take up to 10 photos, on the phone as on the web.
- Rename your hub. Owners and directors can change the hub's name in Hub Settings.
- Leave a hub from the phone. On My Hubs, tap the ⋮ beside the hub and choose Leave Hub. This used to be web-only. Owners can't leave their own hub.
Scores
Men's scores go up to 20.000 on the phone, as they already did on the web. Before this, a score that saved from a laptop could be refused on a phone at the meet.
Roster imports
- Jackrabbit. The importer reads a Jackrabbit Class Roll exported to Excel, alongside the iClassPro roll sheet. It works out which one you gave it. How to import.
- More careful with look-alikes. An import never merges two children who share a name on its own, never changes a birthdate already on file, and only changes a guardian's email on file when you check that athlete's row.
When a save doesn't go through, the app says so
Gyms have bad wifi. A save that failed could look like it worked, or do nothing at all. We went through the app's saves again, so one that didn't land says so instead of going quiet or looking saved.
On the phone:
- One tap on Save with the keyboard up. The first tap used to only close the keyboard.
- Android: a quick double Back no longer crashes the app, the photo picker that sometimes wouldn't open is fixed, and cancelling a date or time picker leaves the field as it was.
Easier to see, tap and hear
- Each status color means one thing. Done is the same green everywhere, in progress is blue, and the text on colored labels is readable in dark mode.
- Larger buttons. On the phone, icon-only buttons and RSVP buttons are large enough to tap without missing. On the web, switches are too.
- Screen readers. VoiceOver and TalkBack name more of the buttons that were only an icon, switches say what they control, and a confirm dialog is read out when it opens.
- Keyboard on the web. Closing a dialog puts focus back on what opened it, and cancelling an edit inside a dialog keeps your place in the dialog.
Privacy
- Bookings stay between the family and the staff. Booking a private lesson or a choreography session adds a staff-only event to the calendar and sends the gym no "New event" notification. Whoever didn't make the booking still hears about it through the booking's own notifications, and the family sees its own booking on its calendar.
- Other families' paused and retired gymnasts don't show to parents. Your own still do.
- Leaving a hub clears it from your phone. Leave a hub on the phone and the screens the app saved for it are cleared at once. Leave on the web, or be removed, and they're cleared the next time the app loads your hubs.
- A gymnast's photo can only be changed or deleted by the people who can edit that gymnast.
- Fonts come from our own site, so no page sends your browser to Google Fonts.
Updating: if you have automatic updates on, you're already set. Otherwise open the App Store or Play Store and update Gym TeamHub. If the update isn't there yet, it's on its way. In a browser there's nothing to do: everything above is already live on the web, and the attendance export and roster imports are web features to begin with.
Routines won't appear until your gym turns it on. An owner or director does that on the web, under Settings → Hub Settings → Feature Tabs.
Keep the feedback coming through the in-app form. Marking a gymnast late and left early on the same day, and the attendance export, both came from one gym asking.
